It’s hard to argue against stories like this and this because any nut job can accuse you of being anti-privacy or an apologist. These stories have some merit, but come on. At what point does this stop? We’re coming up on a year of these types of stories. Next up — BREAKING: Android and iOS…

How am I supposed to automatically know what that means?! Reference any law contract to see how these acronyms are used correctly. At the beginning of the document they state the full meaning and put the acronym in parenthesis and say that for the rest of the document it will be referred to by these letters. If you forget you just go back to the beginning but you can’t just pull letters out of thin air and assume people know what you’re talking about.

A perfect example of absurd acronym usage comes from my father. A few years ago he wanted to pull himself out of the dark ages and started communicating with me using technology while I was in college (instant messenger, text messaging etc.). Since he was an inexperienced user he still was adorably a one-finger-at-a-time kind of typer. In one particular instant message conversation he was growing tired of entering full paragraphs into the chat box and ended with “I’m going to bed MFAT”

… what the heck does MFAT mean??!?!

apparently it stood for “My Fingers Are Tired”

…

LOL and OMG had to start somewhere… but explanation is needed. Please business people… don’t be high and mighty, explain what your letters mean.
